On Saturday, March 7, 2026, the Local Unions of the Downstate Illinois and Great Plains District Councils held a day of action for Margaret Croke for Illinois Comptroller. Croke, who is endorsed by LIUNA, also carries endorsement from 15 different labor organizations, and if elected promises to continue the strong legacy of her predecessor of “withholding payments to employers who underpay their workers and break the law.”
At least 200 Laborers got out on the streets, hitting more than 12,500 doors. Croke called the effort “amazing,” and area Local Unions flooded social media with posts about the day of action.
More than ever, voting is critical to ensuring, strengthening, and protecting worker rights, and voting in primaries is a critical step in making sure labor-friendly candidates are able to make the ballot in general elections. Moreover, the primary election is often your only chance to replace incumbents who may not be standing as strongly on issues that align with worker rights and protections.
Many thanks to everyone who came out and supported this day of action! Together we rise, and together we vote!
