This past October in Collinsville, Ill., the Downstate Illinois Laborers’ District Council (DILDC) held a ceremony to celebrate opening the council’s new building, named after Glyn Ramage, whose vision, commitment and leadership helped shape the future for generations of LIUNA members.
On hand to speak at the festivities was Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, who called it a “great opportunity.”
“[The men and women] of organized labor have always had my back, and honestly, I have their backs, because we’ve made Illinois the best state in the country for members of labor unions and for workers,” he said.
LIUNA Local 218 Business Manager Sean McDonald was more than happy to honor Glyn. “He did a lot for us, and for workers’ rights and the labor movement altogether,” said Sean.
“To dedicate this building and speak on behalf of my father was something I’ll never forget,” said Glyn’s son, Dustin Ramage, “but even more, walking out and seeing apprentices in LIUNA shirts, members who worked out in the field, business managers, community leaders – a room full of people – that really brought a feeling a pride for everything my dad accomplished over the years, and what we continue to accomplish every day.”
Governor Pritzker went on to call Glyn “a champion of the working people” on Instagram, and designated October 20, 2025 as “Glyn Ramage Day.”
The dedication ceremony was packed with representatives from LIUNA and government alike. Illinois State Representative Jay Hoffman took to Facebook to honor Glyn’s commitment, calling him a “tireless advocate for working people and a mentor to many.” Rep. Hoffman also presented Glyn with a copy of Illinois House Resolution 139, congratulating Glyn on his retirement and recognizing his “dedication to and impact on LIUNA.”
Congratulations to Glyn, and to the DILDC on their new facility.
