Roanoke, Ill., Volunteers Give Youth a Place for Hoops

Over 30 volunteers from Local 996 showed up for its first Volunteer Organizing Committee event under the Laborers Rising movement. They poured 48 yards of concrete the morning of Saturday, Nov. 18, at Spring Bay Park in Sand Bay, Ill.

“Our members enjoy using their skills to give back to the community. We hope the youth of Spring Bay enjoy this new addition to their park for many years to come,” said Ronald Ellis, Local 996 Business Manager. “With all the volunteers we were able turn out this morning it made for an easy project. We wanted to give a special thank you to Roanoke Concrete Products for giving us a discounted price on materials.”
