For the 40th consecutive year, members of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) Local 362 volunteered their time and skills to support Special Olympics Illinois, assisting with track and field events at the 2025 Summer Games.
The Games, held at Illinois State University, brought together hundreds of athletes from across the state to compete at their highest level. Local 362 members played a key role in the track competitions — helping with athlete staging, race timing, event coordination, and award presentations — ensuring each event ran smoothly and safely.
“For four decades, our partnership with Special Olympics Illinois has been one of the most meaningful commitments we’ve made to our community,” said Ron Paul, Local 362 Business Manager. “Year after year, our members look forward to cheering on these incredible athletes and supporting an event that embodies determination, sportsmanship, and inclusion.”
The enduring partnership between LIUNA Local 362 and Special Olympics Illinois highlights the Union’s dedication to not only building infrastructure but also building stronger, more inclusive communities. Special Olympics Illinois provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, promoting inclusion, confidence, and friendship through the power of sport.
