A San Antonio, Texas, government district office recently received an urgent call from a constituent whose spouse had been hospitalized and required an amputation. The family needed a wheelchair ramp to help them get in and out of the house. With a tight timeline and limited availability from typical nonprofit partners, the district team turned to the union community for help.
LiUNA Local 1095 answered the call and found the manpower and resources to build the ramp for the family, free of charge. Their quick response and mobilization alleviated the family’s hardship when they needed it most as they adjusted to their new way of life.
“The District 5 team is gracious for the support from LiUNA Local 1095 and Elecnor Belco Electric,” said Councilmember Teri Castillo, “Their support for our families in need demonstrates what solidarity is all about – showing up for each other in times of need.”
“Upon receiving the call from District 5, we immediately knew the appropriate contacts. Elecnor Belco Electric promptly committed to donating both manpower and materials for the cause. We commend Belco for their unwavering dedication to community service and their exemplary partnership. It is always an honor to know that Councilwoman Castillo regards LiUNA as her trusted partner for addressing community needs,” stated Matt Gonzales, Business Manager of Laborers Local 1095.
