Laborers’ Home Development Corporation (LHDC), an affiliate of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, Midwest Region, was featured recently in Affordable Housing News Magazine (AHN). Established in 1972, LHDC is a private, not-for-profit developer of quality, affordable housing in under-served communities. They currently have 14 developments across the Midwest, with more underway. These developments contain a total of 910 units with 242 units for independent senior living, 592 for families and 76 units of supportive living for seniors that need assistance.

AHN bills itself as a key player in the delivery of information for this vitally important industry sector covering the provision and implementation of affordable housing options across the United States of America. Its Winter, 2024, issue covered LHDC in an article entitled “Part of the Community.”

The article focuses on the ways in which LHDC properties and staff strive to create a sense of connectedness with residents, stating in part, “by focusing on quality first and foremost, LHDC has created homes that its members take immense pride in. It all comes back to that community connection.”

The entire article can be read here as a PDF, or accessed via the interactive AHN publication, starting on page 56.

"We are proud ...

of what LHDC has been able to provide for communities in the Midwest Region, and I'm excited about the future of this program," said Karlee Macer, LHDC Executive Director.
